Sunkoshi River Rafting

“River of Gold” The Sunkoshi River rafting has been rated as one of the top ten rafting trips in the world. The Sunkoshi River rises in Tibet and flows eastwards in Nepal through the valley between the Mahabhart Lekha (Hills) and the Himalaya. It is also in the list of must do while in Nepal.

To raft Sunkoshi River we travel by surface to Dolalghat our raft put-in-point covering the distance of 57 ksm in about 3 hrs. Our excitement starts and ends only after we covered 210kms of wild stretches calm flows through high rock strewn passages eventually emerging from the mountains to the flat plains of southern Nepal.
Sunkoshi River rafting is longest river trip and the most fascinating among the few rivers, which flow down from snow-capped mountains. Big rapes, warm water, beautiful scenery and great camping makes this is a classic multi-day river trip. There will be a great trip for intermediate and advanced kayakers. At its best in medium to high flows. This enchanting river expedition of 9 days will definitely be the highlight of you visit to Nepal, its memory shall last forever and ever.

With in a short span or 9 days, we come in close contact with Nepal's natural beauty, people, culture, wildlife and its rivers, it’s simply magic, an experience you shall be glad you took. In this trip you have 250 different species of orchids to look for. River chats, dippers, flycatcher, wall creepers and bulbuls.
There are numerous (abundant) rapids such as Meat Grinder, Punch, and High Anxiety etc. Scaled from 3-8 will eventually emerges into the low land of Terai at Chatara. After 45-minute drive from Chatara you arrive in Dharan, which use to be British Gurkha Army recruiting center in Nepal for decades. Nepal River Rafting Grades

Whitewater Rivers have an internationally recognized grading scale as follows:

Grade I - Flat water, (little current)

These types of rivers are flat and slow moving. A river with a 1 grade listed will have some flat spots. A completely 1 graded river will be totally flat. This kind of river is good for sightseeing and relaxing.

Grade II - Bubbling current (small rapid)

A grade II river has a swifter current and some small rapids

Grade III - Technical & Exciting (needs trained guide)

In a Grade III river, the rapids are becoming more serious and technical. Grade III and above can only be rafted with trained guides. This is a fun river with lots of excitement

Grade IV - Seriously big rapids

This is where the adrenaline gets going; grade IV River has a fast moving current with many big drops and rapids. This kind of river is action packed and needs technical paddling.

Grade V - The hair-raising limit!

This is a serious river not for the faint hearted, with a torrent like current and huge rapids this is the ultimate in white water adventures

.

Grade VI – Unrunable

Please note that most rivers contain more than one grading. For example a grade I – IV river will contain elements of all four grades, flat spots, slower small rapids and some big fast rapids. The grade also varies depending on the season and the amount of water running down the river.
