Kali Gandaki River Rafting

The kali Gandaki river rafting is one of Nepal's very best rivers for whitewater Adventure. The source of the river is formed at an altitude of 3,900m (12,795 ft) in the Mustang region of Nepal, which borders Tibet. Using the Deepest gorge in the world that is formed between the Mt. Annapurna (8346m) Massif and Mt. Dhaulagiri (8046m) and named after the ferocious goddess kali. The river with total catchment area of 46,300 sq km is notable for the deep gorge through which it flows and for a large hydroelectric power in Nepal.
The Kali Gandaki passes through narrow gorges, alongside tumbling waterfalls and jungle, traditional Magar and Chetri villages, whose inhabitants often venture down to the riverside to meet the rafters with traditional ‘Namaste!'. There are superb opportunities to see the Annapurna Mountain range and a variety of wildlife and temples on River banks.
The tumbling waterfalls and grate challenging rapids attract the many whitewater seekers to encounter once upon a time for their rafting experience. This holy river is ideal for medium length wildness expedition and a reward for bird watching and wildlife.

Day 01:-

At around 7/8 am, we drive for around 3-4 hrs to the put-in point near Beni. Throughout this drive we have stunning views of the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri peaks as well as the sacred Machapuchare. Upon arrival, we unload all the equipment and you will receive a full safety briefing.  Have lunch and then the guide will take you to the river starting point ready to begin your exciting 3 days raft trip. First day we begin with some class III rapids this is a warm up for the team, after 10/15 minutes you will be encountering 2 big class 4 rapids i.e. ‘Small Brother’ and ‘Big Brother’. Your guide will be making you work hard at doing exercises to work as a team maneuvering the raft efficiently.  After scouting the rapid, the safety kayaks will go first then the raft. Soon after encountering these two big rapids we will reach the Modi Khola confluence where we will choose the beach for the evening campsite. We unload the rafts and one raft team prepares dinner and rum punch whilst the others play or relax and take in the scenery.

Day 02:

Once the rafts are packed we start down the river for a day mixed with adrenaline calm and spectacular scenery including views of Annapurnna 1 and Himachuli. We will tackle many class III sections and the challenging class IV named REFUND. This section of river is abundant with vines, wildlife and lush vegetation hanging from the cliff faces. Our campsite is below the village of Purti Ghat.

Day 03:

Soon after being back on the water we reach the holy village of Seti Beni. The river has deposited a house size boulder in the confluence with a smaller tributary. Since confluence is considered holy places in the Hindu religion, this boulder has become an important shrine to the local river people. There is usually a great audience to watch and listen to the spectacle as each team negotiates the rapid that has formed around this holy place.  Not long after this it is time for the journey to end. Our bus will be waiting for us. We load up the gear and prepare for the bus journey back to Pokhara

Grading System

Class 1 Easy: Moving water with occasional small rapids. Few or no obstacles.

Class 2 Moderate: Small Rapids with regular waves. Some maneuvering required but easy to navigate.

Class 3 Difficult: Rapids with irregular waves and hazards that need avoiding. More difficult maneuvering required but routes are normally obvious. Scouting from shore is occasionally required.

Class 4 Very Difficult: Large rapids that require careful maneuvering. Dangerous hazards. Scouting from shore is often necessary and rescue is difficult. Kayakers should be able to roll. Turbulent water and large irregular waves may flip rafts. In the event of a mishap there is significant risk of loss damage and/or injury.

Class 5 Extremely Difficult: Difficulties of class 5 carried out to the extreme of navigability. Might possibly (but not probably) be run by a team of experts at the right water level, in the right conditions with all possible safety precautions, but still with considerable hazard to life.

Class 6 Extremely: Difficult but can be run by extremely Rafters exports.
